Hip Hop Zombie

Here's a drawing of my zombie. With some assists from Stephen from my work. I tried adding some of my own pieces, but they didn't come out very good.

Name my Zombie.

Every cool Indie creator has a Zombie character. I've been working on one. But I need a name. Someone name my zombie.

Hey, I bet you thought I was gonna miss today. Well I didn't. I guess it's better late than never. And you get a bunch of stuff today. I got these super cool sketch books for my B-day, here's a bunch of the sketches I did in them recently. The last one is from the movie Tekkonkinkreet. It's cool. Check it out if you get a chance.

Ride The Beaver!

So I'm back. It's been a couple days. I think this is the longest I've gone without posting since I started the blog. I did a lot of drawings while I was in San Jose. I got a really cool large format sketchbook which I've been doing a lot of work in. I'll post some of that stuff in the near future.

Happy Birthday Tome

Well not much to discuss today. It's my birthday. I believe I'm 23 years old, but I could be wrong. I'm going up to San Jose for a couple days so there probably won't be any blog posting for the next couple of days.

It's Done Part 2: the Reckoning

So another issue in the bag. I'm pretty much completely done with Monkey Shines. Pretty much all that is left is formatting it and putting it on the internet. It will probably be up some time next week.

Studio

This isn't really art, it's more a picture of my studio. And when I say studio it's more my desk, which houses a bunch of pens, pencils, markers, and paper (also beer bottles).

Monkey Madness

So I just finished all the support /magazine pages for Monkey Shines. I gotta say drawing all those crazy monkeys was defenetly my favorite part of the whole issues. Here's an alternate version of something that's going to appear in monkey shines. Also all of a sudden I'm almost done with the issue. Only two more pages.

Creative Process

For pretty much every comic I do, I have a really ellaborate page making process. Billy's Adventurer's Club, is the first comic I've done in a while, that the process has been pretty straight forward, but I did this little demonstration to show you A page at it's many different stages.

Step 1:The very first thing I do is write the page, but after that I do a small sketch as to how I want the page to be laid out (you can see in on the right side of the middle panel). After that I go straight to pencils. A lot of people will do a very sketchy version of the page first to make sure there is going to be enough room for everything, but since I'm the one doing everything, I can kind of skip that step.

Step 2:Inks. I'm a pretty terrible inker. I'm pretty much only do it so that the drawing shows up better when I scan it into the computer. This version of the ink page also has a lot of digital corrections. All the Lines around the boxes are done on the computer, as well as touch ups and any heavy black areas.

Step 3: Coloring. This is by far the longest and most boring step, but for BAC the coloring is one of the most important things because it's part of the style of this book. I have to color the lines and then fill them in as well. The color for this page probably actually took longer than the actual pencils and inks.

After I'm done with all that I do lettering, but I didn't want to add a whole extra part just to show a couple word balloons, but that is pretty much the process in a nut shell.

Hero Worship

So I don't usually like posting twice in one day, but on a day like this I think it has to be done. I got to meet one of my all time idols today. Mike Mignola. Here are some of things I took home from the little excursion.

First Step

Here are some concept sketches for the new series I'm working on with Devin. It will probably be a long time before any body will actually see an issue of this, but I'll keep updating this blog with stuff on this series.

Yeti's, Dinosaurs, and Zombies oh my

I've been thinking about what to do next after the water closet. I really wanted to do something really crazy. And when I thought about crazy, I thought of my friend and bandmate Devin Askounis. He is the epitome of crazyness. He is crazy personified. And I was thinking what if this crazy guy made a comic. I knew it would be crazy(wow I'm saying crazy a lot). So I persuaded him to do so. He's been thinking about it for some time now, and he drew up some concept sketches. I personally think they are pretty good. I'm very excited to start drawing on this project. Look for my sketches in the next couple of days.

They don't call me the iron fist for nothing

I'm really not a predominately super hero type of guy(especially in my own comics), but I thought I'd share what some of my favorite super hero comics are. Right now my number one is probably New Avengers, and that is followed closely by Iron Fist. Needless to say I'm a big fan of Danny Rand. Iron Fist highly influenced the character Mafe in my Neworld series. It's funny because I gave Mafe the ability to put his power in his gun, and then in Brubaker and Fractions run the old Iron Fist had the power to do the exact same thing. Which I thought was cool. I'm sure they didn't steel it from me, but I guess great minds think alike.

Owls on the Moon? maybe.

Yes, I know what your thinking. What the fuck is going on. Is this a new series. Is this some new character. No, not really any of the above. It's for a project for school. It's some fake news article. I'll post it over to at deviant art some time.

Sex Bob-Omb

So if you know me, it's no secret that I've fallen in Scott Pilgrim. NO I haven't turned gay. Scott Pilgrim is one of the best indie comics I've ever read, and I'm totally hooked. I don't know if it's going to influence my new comic at all. Bryan Lee O' Malley's doesn't really do anything that I'm really interested in exploring, but who knows a little something might seep in here and there. If you haven't checked out Scott Pilgrim, do yourself a favor check it out over at the Scott Pilgrim Website.

Billy's club gets a new member

So I started reading Bone to help with writing and drawing a kids comic. I definately like the style of Bone. So much so that I decided to do some drawings of some of it's characters. You can check out another Bone character at my DeviantArt.

Welcome Home

So there isn't much debate where I got this from. This house is very much reminiscent of the Foster's House. This is a panel from the Billy's Adventurers Club. Fosters is a big inspiration for this project. They actually have their own blog which is pretty awesome. Check it out here.

MignolaEsque

So I've written about 90% of the new issue of Water Closet (Monkey Shines). It's definately one of the best things I've ever written (In my opinion). As I've been writing it I realized it's very reminiscent of mike Mignola's writing style. That weird off beat dark humor. It comes out a lot more in the Billy's Adventure Club. I guess it's not a surprise since I read more Mignola than any other I think.I guess you'll see when the issue comes out.
